This was written last fall but I never got around to posting it.
I was mowing the yard one evening for some peace and quiet. I know it's noisy on a mower but ya know it doesn't yell and scream or fight. I was mowing by the corn we have growing by the house that will one day soon be feed for our cattle this winter. I got to noticing the root system of a corn plant. Have you ever looked at one? Well here is a sample.

Ok this is several corn plants for you goobers out there that might not know that! ;)

I find it so interesting how there are several layers of roots. It made me wonder about what kind of 'root' system I have in my own life. Do I have certain people in my life to help support me? Who or what is that top layer of roots. Possibly people that you enjoy being around for they bring out the best of you? How about that second layer? Maybe it's your family. Notice also how the roots pull up out of the ground. It's like the people in your life that come and then go for whatever reason. If you look again, you'll see that there is actually a third set that is in the ground. But if you look at the center, what do you see? A HUGE solid stock that runs the whole length of the plant. It reminds me of the
merry-go-round post that I wrote awhile back. It's that HUGE solid center core that is going to keep you upright during the full cycle of life. In all the rain storms, heat or even cold spells, the plant will be able to withstand the weathering. As so your center core will do for your heart. Take time today to realize, who/what is that center core in your heart. There is only one good answer for that. All the rest are empty, false and temporary highs. Everyday when you wake up take time to connect with your Savior and place Him in charge for the day. I can go for days and then realize that I've been in control and not God. I can tell for I feel empty, cloudy and irritable.
So be like a corn stock and get all those roots in the ground but chose them wisely. (the people who surround you) Grow tall and reach for the sky giving God the glory for your beauty. You are beautiful for you are made in His image.
